Cameron Carico + 10 Foundation Donates Money Raised from Golf Classic

The Cameron Carico Memorial Golf Classic in September raised money for a student assistance program.

A foundation to support mental health awareness and suicide prevention presented $11,000 to the Iowa Health – Des Moines Student Assistance Program, the Des Moines Register reported.

The money was raised at the Cameron Carico Memorial Golf Classic, held in September at Bright-Grandview Golf Course in Des Moines.

The Cameron Carico +10 Foundation was created in memory of Cameron Carico, after he took his own life in January 2012.

The Student Assistance Program is a no-cost behavioral health service available to any student.

The Carico foundation has also worked to help end bullying in schools. In late September girls fromΒ Johnston Middle SchoolΒ attended an event aimed at .

Those are the lessons Lauren Parsekian and Molly Thompson hope to instill in girls across the country with their non-profit, theΒ Kind Campaign.

"We have done various things to make our school a building of kindness," said Johnston Middle School Principal Brian Carico. "We are here to hear a very, very strong message of kindness."

The presentation, which was brought to the school through theΒ Cameron Carico +10 Foundation, included a 70-minute viewing of the documentaryΒ Finding Kind.

TheΒ campaignΒ began when Parsekian and Thompson were seniors at Pepperdine University in California.Β Both women recalled how bullying, and what they call girl-against-girl crime, affected their lives in middle and high school.
