Careful Out There, Johnston; Snow is Expected to Continue

After two months of cheating winter, it finally arrived in Johnston overnight. Roads across central Iowa are becoming covered with snow, with predictions of a snowfall of up to 8 inches.

Remember snow?  

It’s here again, and it’s causing problems on roads throughout Johnston, central Iowa and beyond. Take a look at the National Weather Service’s radar, and you’ll get an idea of what we’re getting — and for what we’re in for: Up to eight inches of snow, with several inches now on the ground and falling.

Already, jackknifed semi trucks and vehicles are have slid off roadways, incuding Interstate 80, which the Des Moines Register reports is closed in western Iowa near Avoca. The left lane is blocked from Exit 40 (U.S. highway 59) to Exit 46 (County Road M47) due to a semitrailer truck accident, the Register reports.

The snow is blinding, so be careful. The is predicting up to 10 inches in southwest Iowa, with more than two inches already on the ground by early this morning. The snowfall is expected to end around midnight.
