'Celebrate Johnston' Presents Melissa Stockwell Event Tonight

Melissa Stockwell took the devastating loss of her leg and turned it into a truly inspirational story.

Stockwell headlines the first "Celebrate Johnston" community event at 7 p.m. at Johnston Middle School tonight.

In 2004, Stockwell was the first woman to ever lose a limb in active military combat.

Her service earned her the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.

In 2008, she became a paralympian swimmer. In 2010 she became a world champion.

"Celebrate Johnston" is a call to action to support youths and families in the community.

The initiative facilitates action and interaction between businesses, churches, schools, and organizations in Johnston.
