Crowds Turn Out for Johnston Rotary Club's Barbecue: PHOTOS

The club held a $5 a plate barbecue Thursday night to benefit Youth Homes of Mid-America.

Johnston residents turned out in force Thursday night to support the Johnston Rotary Club's .

While a total amount raise hasn't been finalized the event did bring in approximately $7,900 in business sponsorships, said Stephanie Simonson, organizers.

Simonson said ticket sales and donations are still being tallied.

The event was held at the Simpson Barn, with the meal catered by Johnston Hy-Vee.

Music during dinner was provided by the Johnston Station Jazz Band.

Youth Homes of Mid-America, based in Johnston, provides on-campus and off-campus treatment for teenage men who have emotional, behavioral and educational difficulties. They also provide community-based programming for teenage women. All clients are wards of the state of Iowa who were referred to Youth Homes of Mid-America either via the Iowa Department of Human Services or from the Iowa Juvenile Court.
