The Johnston boys soccer team is three games away from a state championship.

, a three seed in iowa High School Boys' Class 3A State Tournament, take on six seed Bettendorf on Thursday.

Johnston, who has a record of 17-2, defeated Dowling Catholic 3-1 Saturday in the substate finals in Johnston.

The road to state included a bye in the first round of substate play and a 4-0 last week.

Bettendorf also started the substate play with a bye continued with a 4-0 win over North Scott Eldrige.

On Saturday the team defeated Pleasant Valley 2-0 to make the trip to the state tournament.

Thursday's state quarterfinal game begins at 5 p.m. on field seven at Cownie Soccer Park in Des Moines.
