Why go: Support the Ninth Annual Johnston Dollars for Scholars dinner and auction for good food, prizes and company. The non-profit organization aims to provide all Johnston seniors with financial assistance as they continue their education.

Why go: Cheer on the Johnston speech students as they compete.

When/Where: 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Johnston Library
Why go: Make an appointment to meet with tax counselors for help on your taxes. The service is free, but appointments are required, call 278-5233.

When/Where: Several local churches on Sunday
Why go: Help stock the DMARC food pantry with donations. Check with your church.

What: Support the Saints Silent Auction
When/Where: All day Sunday at St. James Lutheran Church
Why go: Help the St. James Youth Group in raising funds for activities, including a trip to the National Youth Gathering Trip. At noon, a New Orleans style cuisine will be served.
