Don't Have Air Conditioning? Here Are Spots In and Near Johnston Where You Can Find Relief
County health officials are reminding residents to seek out cooling stations today to get relief from the heat.

Polk County Health Department officials remind people there are many public locations available for people to get out of the heat. In the Johnston area that includes the , which is open today from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Other day-time cooling stations are Merle Hay Mall, Valley West Mall and Jordan Creek Town Center.Β
Terri Henkels, Polk County Health Department Director said in a news release, βEach summer it takes our bodies a while to get readjusted to the heat. While we are likely to see much warmer temperatures later this summer, this weekβs weather, without taking proper precautions, could pose a health risk.βΒ

Many public places, like malls, libraries, senior centers, are air conditioned and are open to the public as daytime cooling centers. Health Department officials remind people that drinking plenty of water is essential to staying to safe in the heat. Drink 16 to 20 ounces of water 2 hours before going out into the heat. Keep water within armβs reach and sip 8-10 ounces of water every 15-20 minutes.
