Dragons' Fall Athletes Record Impressive Recognitions

Johnston High School athletes finished the fall seasons on many high notes.

As we look to winter sports beginning in Johnston, we want to take a minute to congratulate all of the Dragons' fall athletes.

Boy's Golf
The boys' golf team qualified for the state golf tournament at the Tournament Club of Iowa on Oct. 5 and Oct. 6.

The team finished in sixth place overall.

Grant Smith finished second at the tournament and was named to the all-conference and all-state teams.

Girls' Cross Country
The Lady Dragons cross country team earned the best showing at the state tournament in school history, placing third.

The tournament took place Oct. 27 in Fort Dodge.

Jordyn Kleve: 12th overall; 14:32 (2 seconds from the school record)
Bailey Eppard: 18th overall; 14:37 (4th fastest time in school history)
Kenzie Foldes: 40th overall; 15:08
Anna Toot: 46th overall; 15:12
Sara Ness: 50th overall; 15:15
Maddy Bradley: 59th overall; 15:23
Sandra Kromminga: 100th overall; 16:14

Boys' Cross Country
The boys' cross country team participated in the state cross country meet in Fort Dodge on Oct. 27

The team recorded the highest finish in school history, placing sixth.

Tyson Wieland, 10th place overall; state individual qualifier, new school record
Connor Westlake, 30th place overall; state individual qualifier, 4th best time in school history
David Rice, 37th place overall, 8th best time in school history
Josh Borwick, 43th place overall
Adam Johanson, 75th place overall
Drew Hershey, 78th place overall
Jeremy Caracci, 88th place overall

Football
The Johnston Dragons played through to the second round of the state football playoffs,

The Dragons ended the season with a 6-5 record.

Girls' Swimming and Diving
The Dragons placed sixth at the state meet Nov. 2 and Nov. 3 in Marshalltown.

State qualifiers include:

Victoria Trost, 200 Medley Relay (6th place and new school record); 100 freestyle (5th place); 100 backstroke (3rd place and a new school record); 400 freestyle relay (6th place)

Cheyenne Church, 200 Medley Relay (6th place and new school record); 100 butterfly (16th)

Niki Ferguson, 100 Freestyle (15th); 100 Backstroke (24th); 200 Freestyle Relay (12th); 400 freestyle relay (6th place)

Volleyball
The Dragon volleyball team capped off a great year with a loss to Ankeny in the first round of the state tournament. The team ended the season with a 28-6 record.
