DuPont Pioneer Voices Plans to Build a New Wind Turbine – One Larger Than the City of Johnston Allows
The company expressed its plans to build a larger wind turbine on one of its research fields to the Johnston City Council Monday, but current plans call for a turbine bigger than the city allows.

Concerns over noise and lighting weren't enough to hamper the excitement of the Johnston City Council over a proposed new wind turbine that may go up in the city.
An official from DuPont Pioneer expressed the company's wishes at Monday's night regular meeting to build a larger turbine on one of its research field, according to the Des Moines Register.
“I think as we move forward, you’re going to see these turbines start to dot the landscape more and more like we already are,” council member David Lindeman said, according to the newspaper. “I don’t think they’re going to be that farfetched to have something like this in Johnston.”
DuPont Pioneer wants to build the turbine in a field between NW 62nd Avenue and NW 70th Avenue in hopes it will help the company meet sustainability and energy goals, Derek Nelson, a sustainability manager with the company, told the Register.
The catch is the proposed turbine is larger than the city currently allows.
An amendment in the city's current ordinance would be required, the article said. DuPont Pioneer must also identify funding for the project.
According to the Register, city officials will now research and sit down with Pioneer to work on writing a proposed ordinance.
