UPDATE: Johnston Fire Chief Says Trim and Tone Spa Damaged by Fire

Johnston fire crews responded to a fire in an electric sauna Tuesday afternoon at Trim and Tone Spa, 5721 Merle Hay Road, according to the Des Moines Register.

Fire Chief Jim Krohse said the flames spread to two other machines and caused heat and smoke damage to the wall and ceiling of the unit.

There was one person in the business when the fire started, and she called 911.

Krohse told the Register firefighters went through each of the eight units to evacuate people. The flames were knocked down in about 30 minutes but were crews were on scene for almost four hours to ventilate smoke from the strip mall.

The Johnston Fire Department fought a fire Tuesday afternoon at Elite Physical Fitness, 5525 Merle Hay Road, Suite 135, according to KCCI.com.

Firefighters told the TV station the fire is believed to have started in equipment used for physical therapy.

Everyone inside the business was able to safely evacuate. No injuries were reported, according to KCCI.
