Father Faces Charges in Incident Where 8-Year-Old Brought Gun to School
Investigators said they also took possession of other weapons found in the home that were not properly secured, according to one central Iowa television station.

A Johnston man is facing charges in connection with a Tuesday incident in which an 8-year-old was found in possession of a gun at Lawson Elementary School in Johnston, according to KCCI Channel 8.
Louis Friestad, 31, of Johnston is expected to be charged Wednesday with child endangerment and a gun law violation after his son, who is in second grade, brought the weapon to school, the television station reported.

Police were called to Lawson shortly before noon Tuesday.Β School officials said the incident was reported to a teacher by fellow students.
The gun was not loaded and no students were harmed,Β district spokeswoman Laura Dillavou also told The Des Moines Register.

According to a press release issued by the Johnston Police Department, FriestadΒ was called to the school Tuesday to meet with a student resource officer and school officials. After he was interviewed, investigators determined that the student brought the gun to school from home.
Investigators took possession of other weapons found in the home that were not properly secured, KCCI reported. The case has also been referred to the Department of Human Services.
