Fighting Back Against Cancer: Polk County Gears Up for Annual Relay for Life

The event is one of more than 90 American Cancer Society Relay For Life events across Iowa, in which more than 23,000 Iowans participate.

While the mission is the same, Polk County Relay for Life is changing things up a little this year.

Polk County residents will once again take a stand against cancer when the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Polk County is held at the Mercy Wellness Campus in Clive on Friday, June 7 at 6 p.m.

Event hours are changing this year, according to a press release sent by Relay for Life. The event will kick off at 6 p.m. with opening ceremonies and end by 11 p.m. with closing ceremonies.

Events at this year's Relay will include customary traditions like the Luminaria Ceremony, celebrating those who have won their battle with cancer, remembering those who have lost and honoring those who are still fighting.

Some new events this year will include a Local Hero’s Lap, Mother/Daughter and Father/Son Lap and Zumba. Anyone desiring to make a $10 luminaria donation may do so by visiting www.relayforlifeofpolkcounty.com.
