Holiday Events Begin Around Johnston This Weekend
A number of holiday events are ushering in the beginning of December.

The first weekend of December is ushering in the holiday spirit in Johnston.
From Santa Claus to caroling there's plenty of holiday cheer to go around.
Dahl's Santa Visit, Coloring Contest
Santa will available at for photos from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
After visiting Santa, stop by the free cookie-decorating station for a tasty treat.

The store is also sponsoring a holiday coloring contest for kids up to 9 years old.
Pick up a coloring activity sheet at any metro Dahl's store and return it before Dec. 17 to be in the running to win a gift basket that includes a Hormel spiral cut ham.

Three winners will be announced in different age brackets at each Dahl's store.
Holiday events on Saturday will take place at 13 Dahl's metro locations including Johnston and Merle Hay Road in Des Moines.
Holidays in Johnston
Santa Claus will make his first big appearance at Holidays in Johnston at the at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
Santa will arrive on a Johnston Fire Department ladder truck.
The Johnston High School Madrigal singers and the Summit Middle School Flute Choir will entertain all those in attendance.
Stick around to decorate cookies, play games and enjoy a food craft from Hy-Vee dieticians.
Check out the gingerbread house contest in the library's conference room.
At 4:25 p.m. one lucky person will win a digital camera.
The celebration ends when Santa and Johnston mayor Paula Dierenfeld join forces for the official lighting of the decorated tree in Johnston Commons.
Holiday Open House
The presents a Holiday Open House from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
Browse goodies from Longaberger Baskets, Pampered Chef, Scentsy, Garden of Eatin Apples, Creative Memories and more.
Admission is free and guests can register for a free door prize from each vendor.
Caroling
The Pathway Church members will bring old-fashioned Christmas caroling to Johnston on Sunday evening.
Carolers will meet at 3:30 p.m. at the store for hot chocolate before hitting the streets. Caroling will last from 4 to 6 p.m.
