How Much Did Johnston's Big Give Bring In For The American Cancer Society?
The fundraising effort included a pancake breakfast, talent show, baskeball game and more over a month this winter.

The student council announced today that $10,700 was raised for the American Cancer Society through their initiative.
From Jan. 27 to Feb. 27, students worked to engage the entire Johnston community in a variety of events organized and hosted by the student council.
These events included the Coaches vs. Cancer basketball game on Jan. 27 where they sold raffle tickets, baked goods, and memory ribbons for cancer survivors and victims, restaurant nights at local businesses such as Buffalo Wild Wings and Culverβs where a portion of every bill was donated to Johnstonβs Big Give, a school-wide coin war, pancake breakfast, and a community talent show.

Additional donations from community members were also received.
This is the first year that Johnstonβs Big Give has taken place.

Student council members voted in the fall to select the American Cancer Society as the charity that Johnstonβs Big Give would support in honor of fellow students and staff that have fought or are currently fighting cancer.
American Cancer Society Community Relations staff member Laura Miller said, β[The] Big Give program sets the bar high for other schools to follow. It is truly an example for others.β
