Is Johnston Mayor Paula Dierenfeld Running for Re-Election?

Johnston Mayor Paula Dierenfeld announced Thursday her plans to run for re-election in November.

“It has been a privilege serving the residents of Johnston as their mayor these past six years. I truly believe Johnston is the best place to live, work, and to raise a family," she said in the release.

"We have outstanding employers, excellent schools, and safe streets and neighborhoods. The quality of life we have in Johnston is unsurpassed in Iowa.”

“We are one of the fastest growing communities in the state. As we continue to grow, focus must remain on the issues our residents have told us are important to them – making sure tax dollars are spent wisely, ensuring quality growth by preserving what is good in our community as we plan for continued smart and strategic growth, and maintaining our safe schools and neighborhoods.”

“As mayor, I couldn’t be more proud of the residents and businesses we have in Johnston and what we’ve been able to accomplish by working together. We’ve greatly enhanced our police and fire services, made significant infrastructure improvements throughout our community, and expanded recreational opportunities for residents of all ages and abilities.”

“Even though we have grown to be a community of nearly 19,000 residents, Johnston still has that home town feel. We’re a larger community made up of many great neighborhoods – where neighbors really do know and care about the children and families living next door. We will continue to grow and together we will maintain the small town qualities that make Johnston a great place to live, do business and to raise a family,” said Dierenfeld.     

Dierenfeld has lived in Johnston for nearly 22 years and served on the city council for two terms prior to being elected mayor in 2007. Dierenfeld is an attorney and partner in the Nyemaster Goode Law Firm in Des Moines and is involved in numerous civic and nonprofit organizations. She is married to David Roederer, is the mother of three children and the grandmother of 12.
