Jazz in July Returns to Johnston

Metro Arts Jazz in July Returns to Johnston July 21!

After successful events the past two summers, Metro Arts Jazz in July is gearing up again this year for a stop in Johnston.

Regional favorite Max Wellman will headline this year’s Metro Arts Jazz in July-Johnston, scheduled for Sunday, July 21, 2013, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Johnston Public Library. Top jazz musicians from Johnston High School will open for Wellman.

Committee chair Dave Kurns said Johnston is thrilled to again be hosting Jazz in July, a month-long festival that celebrates jazz and art with free outdoor concerts across the Des Moines metro. Each concert is billed by Metro Arts Alliance as a mini festival experience.

“Last year marked Metro Arts Jazz in July’s second stop in Johnston, and we’ve been very pleased the past two years that large, enthusiastic crowds have braved the heat to enjoy great entertainment,” Kurns said.

"We have a centrally located, easily accessible venue and a talented headlining act again this year, and we hope the Johnston community will again support this special family-friendly event.”

Metro Arts Jazz in July-Johnston is free to the public and will take place in the green space between the library and the Simpson Barn in the Johnston Commons area, 6700 Merle Hay Road. (If you’ve attended Johnston Green Days, you’ll know just where to find Metro Arts Jazz in July!) And Wellman’s brand of jazz music is certain to entertain fans of all ages.

Food and drinks will be available at the event, and residents are welcome to bring their own beverages as well. For more information, see the Metro Arts Jazz in July page on Facebook, or visit www.metroarts.org. And to learn more about Max Wellman, visit www.maxwellmanmusic.com
