Johnston School Board to Discuss Re-Audit, Facilities

A work session was called to discuss district facilities, while the regular meeting includes discussion on a reaudit, student representative and a new website.

Further discussion of facilities tops the agenda for the work session Monday night.

The board will discuss the repurposing of the current middle school and use of Wallace Elementary during the 4 p.m. meeting.

Previously the moving forward with a new high school and moving the eighth- and ninth-grade classes to the current high school.

The work session will be followed by the board's regular meeting at 6 p.m.

  • The district's fiscal year 2010 re-audit report by the state auditor. The re-audit also covered certain items to determine practices applicable to prior years and the year ended June 2011.
  • Discuss adding a Johnston High School student representative to join the school board. The student representative would not retain the same duties and responsibilities as regular board members and is a non-voting member.
  • Discuss Julie Walters submitting her name to the Iowa Association of School Boards for consideration as a candidate for the District 5B Board of Directors. Walters is running unopposed for a vacated seat.
  • Discuss an agreement with Atlas Media Group, LLC to redesign the district's website for a fee of $14,859, which includes $12,200 for development, $500 for training, $950 for testing and $1,200 for support. The project, if approved, would have a soft launch at the end of May 2012 and a final launch no later than July 13, 2012.

The board meets in the district Administrative Resource Center for both meetings.
