Johnston Board to Discuss Superintendent's Contract and Raise

Johnston Schools Superintendent Clay Guthmiller will be sticking around for at least two more years, if the school board approves a new contract at tonight's meeting.

The board will discuss the new contract, which is effective from July 1, 2012, to June 30, 2014, and includes a 3.25 percent raise.

Under the contract terms Guthmiller will receive $186,993 each year for 260 work days.

The contract benefits include paid holidays provided by the district calendar, 20 days of paid vacation, 15 days of paid sick leave, and two personal days per year.

Under the contract, the board will provide the superintendent with periodic opportunities to discuss the superintendent-board relationships and inform him of any inadequacies perceived by the board.

The board will evaluate Guthmiller on not less than an annual basis.

Guthmiller has been the superintendent for the Johnston school district since July 2006.

Other agenda items include:

• Discussion of specific components of the new high school regarding the size of the performing arts theater and subsequent costs.
• Discussion of 2013 Legislative priorities.

The board meets at 6 p.m. at the Administrative Resource Center.
