Johnston Celebrates Healthiest State Walks Wednesday - Find One Near You

The walk is one kilometer or 0.62 miles.

Johnston residents will take more steps Wednesday toward making Iowa the healthiest state in the union by 2016.

There are several Start Somewhere Walks scheduled in Johnston Wednesday.
The walk, which drew more than 291,000 participants last year, encompasses a kilometer or 0.62 miles.

Scheduled walks include:

  • Be Healthy Johnston! - Physiotherapy Associates, 5900 Northwest 86th Street, noon
  • Johnston Hy-Vee, 5750 Merle Hay Road, noon - A healthy snack will be provided
  • DLL - Pass Go, De Lage Landen, 8001 Birchwood Court, noon
  • Johnston Administrative Resource Center, 5608 Merle Hay Road, noon

Gov. Terry Branstad and Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds’ Healthiest State Initiative responds to the 2011 Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index that showed Iowa was No. 16  in overall physical, emotional and mental health.

The Healthiest State Initiative is a privately led public initiative intended to inspire Iowans and their communities throughout the state to improve their health and happiness. To achieve our goal, individuals, families, businesses, faith-based organizations, not-for-profits and the public sector will unite in a community-focused effort to make Iowa the healthiest state in the nation by 2016.
