Johnston Community School District, Community Education Now on Facebook and Twitter

Johnston Community School District is now offering parents, staff, students, community members, and media outlets two additional ways to stay informed on district happenings and news.

Launched in late December, the district now has a Facebook page and Twitter account. These forays into social media bring the district into a commonplace of idea sharing and instantaneous communication.

On Facebook, anyone can “like” the Johnston Community School District page. If you have an existing Facebook account, log in and search for “Johnston Community School District” and the official page with the Fire-J profile picture will come up. Click “like” and let the news come to you. Share it with your friends to keep them in loop, too.

Facebook Posts by a JCSD representative will then show up on a person’s news feed. Photos and video will also be posted when available. Links to JCSD-related articles will be shared as well.

Similar items will be shared via the district’s Twitter account. If you have a Twitter account, log in and search for “JohnstonCSD.” The official account with the Fire-J profile picture should appear. Click “follow” and stay up-to-date on JCSD news. Similar to Facebook, news stories about the district, its schools and students, and media links will be tweeted. Updates from school board meetings will also be tweeted live from the meetings.

The district feels that these two additional channels of communication will help keep people informed on larger district matters, such as the upcoming bond referendum, kindergarten registration, and end-of-school information. With the growing number of people using social media to communicate, it only made sense for Johnston schools to make the jump, said district administrators.

Information exclusive to a student’s class or extra-curricular activities will still be shared via traditional methods, such Moodle, Infinite Campus, School Fusion, and email. The district-wide notification system, AlertNow, will continue to be the first tool used to communicate news related to school closings, events, or alerts, via email or voice messages.  If you have questions about any of these tools, please contact your child’s school.
