Johnston Council Renews City Administrator's Contract, Increases Salary

Johnston City Adminstrator Jim Sanders will earn $137,331 next year, an increase of 2 percent.

The Johnston City Council approved City Administrator Jim Sanders' contract Monday night, extending his tenure through June 2013.

Sanders' salary was increased by 2 percent to $137,331 next year, which was consistent with the percentage increase approved for other non-bargaining employees, according to a communication from the council.

Sanders is eligible for paid time off, personal leave and health insurance, but will not be able to collect overtime pay.

He has a six-month severance package. This is his fifteenth contract with the City of Johnston.

The council also approved Police Chief Bill Vaughn's contract for the 2012-2013 year. He will make $108,214.33. He is offered a 90-day severance package, and will be offered a health care plan with the city.

The agreement becomes effective July 1.
