Johnston Council to Discuss Improvements East of Merle Hay Road
The council will consider a contract to begin a citizen driven process to discuss public improvements.

In the past few years there has been an apparent overhaul of the north corridor of Merle Hay Road.
Tonight, the Johnston City Council will begin discussing similar plans for a citizen driven process for the area east of Merle Hay Road.
From the city of Johnston:
The Johnston City Council will be considering a contract to begin a citizen driven process to discuss public improvements to the area east of Merle Hay Road. The proposed process involves property owners and citizens in the neighborhood being actively involved to determine what improvements they desire and what they want their neighborhood to look like.
At their work session on Monday, October 1 the City Council is going to discuss entering into an agreement with Foth Infrastructure and Environment to lead a planning process for the area. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. at city hall, 6221 Merle Hay Road.
The proposed agreement establishes a process to involve the residents in the area (stakeholders) in planning public improvements for the area. The process will include a steering committee (comprised primarily of stakeholders in the planning area), workshops, stakeholders meetings and neighborhood focus groups.
The October 1st work session will be an opportunity to for the City Council to discuss the proposed contract and determine if they will consider approval of the contract at their October 15th meeting. If the City Council proceeds with the planning process there will be an effort to communicate with all of the property owners in the planning area to encourage them to be involved in the planning process.
