Johnston Father Whose Son Brought a Gun to School Faces Trial Next Month

A Johnston man who was charged after his 8-year-old son brought a gun to school will head to trial on Aug. 21.
Louis Friestad IV, 31, is facing four counts of neglect and one count of making a pistol, revolver or ammunition available to a person under 21, the Des Moines Register reports.
On May 7, police were called to Lawson Elementary School in Johnston shortly before noon. The gun found on the child was not loaded and no one was injured.
According to a press release issued by the Johnston Police Department, Friestad was called to the school the day of the incident to meet with a student resource officer and school officials. After he was interviewed, investigators determined that the student brought the gun to school from home.
Friestad was charged following the incident.
