Johnston Flags to Be Lowered in Honor of 9/11

If you drive by the Johnston Post Office or Camp Dodge on Tuesday you'll noticed flags have been lowered to half staff in honor of 9/11.

Tomorrow marks the eleventh anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks.
To mark the occasion, Gov. Terry Branstad has ordered all flags in the state to be flown at half-staff from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The act is set to honor those who perished in the attacks, a release from the Governor's office said Monday.

You can attend a ceremony in neighboring Des Moines to honor the lives of those lost in the terrorist attacks on 9/11 with a tribute at Gray's Lake Park.

An installation of 3,213 flags (one for each life lost that day) will stand on the west side of Gray's Lake Tuesday through Wednesday on the trail that runs from the north dock to the south shelter.

The Des Moines Parks and Recreation Department, along with Clear Channel Media and the U.S. Air Force, came together to create the installation being called, "The Tribute Trail."

Flags will be at half-staff on the state Capitol building and on flag displays in the Capitol complex, and upon all public buildings, grounds, and facilities throughout the state. Individuals, businesses, schools, municipalities, counties and other government subdivisions are encouraged to fly the flag at half-staff for the same length of time as a sign of respect.
