Johnston Green Days a Team Effort for Chamber, Local Businesses

Today kicks off four days of family-friendly fun in Johnston.

The 16th annual Green Days Celebration starts at 5 tonight with a number of events, including a rib cook-off, charity walk and family movie night.

Green Days began in Johnston in 1996 as an agricultural and horticultural tradition sponsored by the Johnston Chamber of Commerce partnering with local nurseries, greenhouses, garden clubs and other groups.

The largest Johnston summertime community event is free to residents and visitors. However, expect to pay for food, drinks and the carnival rides.

The profits from Johnston Green Days beverage sales are donated to the community in the way of Christmas in Johnston, Johnston Dollars for Scholars, and the Johnston School Art Departments. Remaining monies are donated to special city projects.

In the past, proceeds have gone to support enhanced trail signs, street banners, holiday decorations and work to the Johnston Historical Society.

The festival wouldn't be possible without the support of Chamber members, residents and local businesses.
