Johnston Honors Officers for Peace Officers' Memorial Day

On Tuesday, Johnston Mayor Paula Dierenfeld signed a proclamation honoring officers.

On Tuesday afternoon, the officers from the were honored.

In recognition of Peace Officers' Memorial Day and National Police Week, Johnston Mayor Paula Dierenfeld presented a proclamation to the officers for their devoted and selfless work on behalf of residents.

WHEREAS, the President of the United States has designated May 15th as Peace Officers’ Memorial
Day and the week in which May 15th falls as National Police Week; and

WHEREAS, the members of the Johnston Police Department work devotedly and selflessly on behalf of the residents of the Johnston community, regardless of the peril or hazard to themselves;

WHEREAS, everyday Johnston’s police officers serve the residents of Johnston by enforcing the laws to protect us and our property from danger and those who would harm us;

WHEREAS, these same officers are regularly in our schools, churches and neighborhoods to share information and to educate us and our children on actions We can take safeguard our families and homes.

WHEREAS, the men and women of the Johnston Police Department by their patriotic service and dedicated efforts have earned the respect and gratitude of the entire Johnston community;

NOW THEREFORE BE IT PROCLAIMED that I, Paula Dierenfeld, Mayor of Johnston, on behalf of the Johnston City Council, call upon all citizens of Johnston to observe May 15, 2012 as Peace Officers’ Memorial Day and join in commemorating police officers, past and present, Who, by their faithful and loyal devotion to their responsibilities, have rendered a dedicated service to their communities and, in so doing, have established for themselves an enviable and enduring reputation for preserving the rights and security of all citizens.

In witness whereof, I hereunto set my hand and the seal of the City of Johnston to be affixed this 15th day of May 2012.
