Johnston Middle School Students Find Success at History Day
Johnston eighth and ninth grade students participated in History Day April 3 and 4.
Nearly 50 students from Johnston Middle School participated in AEA 11 District History Days on April 3 and 4 at the State Historical Building of Iowa.
Students created projects centered on the theme “Revolution, Reaction, and Reform in History” which they researched and developed for the past four to six months.
Students utilized extensive primary sources, including interviews, newspapers, and documents. Ninth grade was included in the senior division and 8th grade in the junior division. The eighth graders took first place large school trophy in the Jr. division on April 3.

Special awards in eighth grade were presented to: Brett Kerr for his unusual topic, Gavin Mumm for superior knowledge of topic, Loyal Ulm, Katie Perkins, and Eilidh Chowanec for outstanding presentation and excellent us of resources, Becca McDowell and Kate Irwin for superior knowledge of topic, Meredith Campidilli and Sarah Henry for outstanding presentation, Caroline Aldrich for outstanding bibliography and creative entry, Seth Tack for unusual topic, superior knowledge, and creative entry, and Maddy Bradley and Anne Wallace for outstanding bibliography, outstanding use of local topic and creative entry.

Special awards in 9th grade were presented to: Elea Kaptain, Katherine Claes, Elizabeth Reiher, & Autumn Askew for outstanding knowledge of topic, outstanding presentation, and unusual topic and to Meredith Toebben for her creative entry.
