Johnston Officer, Sheriff's Deputy Recognized for Life-Saving Service
The City of Johnston recognized two law enforcement officials for their role in saving a man's life.

One Officer has been at it again.
Saving lives that is.
Officer Brad Lowe and Polk County Sheriff's Deputy Scott Vanderweide were honored with a Life Saving Award.

On March 30, Officer Lowe and Deputy Vanderweide responded to a call for medical assistance at the , 5050 Merle Hay Road.
The call was in reference to a person unconscious with ineffective breathing.

When officer Lowe and deputy Vanderweide arrived they found the victim in respiratory arrest and unresponsive. The two men quickly assessed the victim and initiated CPR.
According to the citation, medical authorities have substantiated their actions helped save the victim's life.
"After four minutes without oxygen the body, heart and brain starts to suffer irreversible damage," the citation stated. "Officer Lowe and Deputy Vanderweide while administering CPR were essentially providing the victim a heartbeat and breathing until the Johnston Fire Department arrived on scene."
The attending physician wrote, βIf they had not started CPR, the young man would have died or suffered permanent brain damageβ¦. As a resident of Johnston, I am proud that we have such skilled officers and EMS providers serving our communityβ.Β Β Β
"I think this is a great example of where Polk County works with your local police and soma something that is pretty extraordinary," said Mayor Paula Dierenfeld.

Lowe performed CPR on the man who was unresponsive in the company's parking lot.
