Johnston Park Director Position Down to Two Candidates

An open house will be hosted tonight for a select group of residents to meet the final two candidates for the Johnston park director position.

A select group of Johnston residents have been invited to meet the top two candidates for the Johnston park director position.

The residents, who work on several city boards including the Tree Board, Park Board, Senior Citizens Advisory Board, as well as the mayor, city council and other city department heads, will meet the candidates at an open house at tonight.

  • Nicholas Schenck, director of parks and recreation for Adel
  • John Schmitz, director of parks and recreation for Fremont, NE.

The men are vying to fill the position, which was left void when Ron Ward took a job with the City of Des Moines in July.

The city received 47 applications and interviewed six before narrowing the field to Schenck and Schmitz.
