Officers Investigate Possible Live Grenade

Johnston police officers were called to the 6000 block of Bristol Lane on Oct. 22 to investigate a possible live grenade that was found in the homeowner's garage. The homeowners told officers the object was in a wooden chest that was shipped to the United States from Europe around the time of World War I.

The Des Moines Police Department bomb squad took possession of the grenade to be destroyed.

Oct. 27
Officers responded to a vehicle being hit while parked in the 5500 block of Merle Hay Road.

Oct. 26
Employees at American TV reported four plasma televisions were purchased with a check that came back with non-sufficient funds. The loss is estimated at more than $2,400.

Officers were called to the 5500 block of Northwest 60th Avenue for a dispute. A resident had blocked the city street to prevent a semi-truck towing a dirt trailer from traveling on the residential road. The street was cleared.

Oct. 25
Bradley White, 31, was charged with public intoxication, possession of drugs, criminal mischief and possession of contraband at the jail. Officers first were called to Stoney Creek Inn for a report of intoxicated adults.

A 27-year-old woman was charged with public intoxication and child endangerment in the 8700 block of Lyndhurst Drive.

Oct. 22
Ryan Rittman, 26, was charged with operating while intoxicated in the area of Northwest 70th Avenue and Northwest 86th Street.

A 37-year-old man reported receiving harassing phone calls in the 4800 block of Sunshine Circle.
