Johnston Police Chase Ends in Accident, Arrest of Burglary Suspect
The Johnston Police Department was involved in a car chase after a traffic stop Thursday night.
An overnight vehicle chase in Johnston resulted in the arrest of a 31-year-old Des Moines woman and injuries to three people, including the alleged suspect.
The vehicle chase ended with an accident sending the suspect, her passenger and the occupant of a parked vehicle to Mercy West Hospital, according to a news release. None of the injuries were believed to be life threatening.
Alon Rene Meisters, the driver who fled police, was arrested and taken to Polk County jail on charges of pursuit and three outstanding criminal warrants. Meisters also faces charges of possession of stolen property, possession of burglar tools, theft in the third degree and a number of traffic violations.

Johnston police officers first responded to a call of suspicious activity regarding a 2000 Chevy Suburban in the 10000 block of Essex Drive. When officers arrived the vehicle was leaving the scene.
Police tried to stop the SUV in the 9800 block of Northwest 54th Avenue, the driver accelerated and continued east on Northwest 54th Avenue, reaching speeds in excess of 65 miles per hour.

The chase continued onto Northwest 86th Street, reaching speeds in excess of 75 miles per hour.
The chase ended after the SUV collided with a 2010 Toyota Corolla in the 4600 block of Northwest 86th Street, causing the SUV to lose control and strike the center median, where it then went airborne and collided with two parked cars in the Parking lot at 4651 N.W. 86th St.
Meisters and her 38-year-old male passenger were taken to Mercy hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries and released. Meisters was then taken into custody.
A 25-year-old Johnston resident in one of the parked vehicles struck by Meisters' vehicle was taken to the hospital. The extent of his injuries were unknown, but not believed to be life threatening.
The Johnston Police Department continues to investigate the activity of Meisters and her passenger prior to the pursuit.
