UPDATE: Johnston Police Re-Arrest Man Who Escaped Custody Friday

A 19-year-old suspected in multiple burglaries escaped from Johnston police, allegedly stole an SUV and was sought on several charges. Police said they again had Conor Forest in custody Saturday night.

A 19-year-old who escaped from police custody the day before has been taken into custody in Illinois, Johnston police said Saturday night.

Investigators tracked Conor Jack Forest to a relative’s residence in Wauconda, IL, according to a news release.Β As of 5:15 p.m. Saturday, with help from the Wauconda, IL., Police Department, Forest was apprehended and taken into custody without incident.

Forest is being held in Illinois, pending extradition, on several Johnston charges that include theft, burglary and escape, the release said.

According to a news release from the Johnston Police Department, Forest escaped from authorities Friday after he was arrested on charges related to the attempted burglary of a house in the 9100 block of Northwest 72nd Circle in Johnston.

Johnston police had arrested Forest on the attempted burglary charge and officers were questioning him about his involvement in several residential burglaries that had occurred in Polk, Dallas, Jasper, Warren and Poweshiek counties when he escaped from custody and fled the police department on foot about 10:30 p.m.

Johnston police and Polk County deputies searched the area with the assistance of police canines, but were unable to locate Forrest.

Forest is suspected of stealing a 2009 white KIA Sportage from the 6300 block of Northwest 54th Court, just north and west of the Johnston Police Department. The vehicle was displaying Iowa license plates 679SSM when it was taken.
