Johnston Police Take-Back Prescription Drugs Day A Success

On Oct. 29, the Johnston Police Department's Take-Back Drugs initiative collected 126 pounds of medications.

Johnston residents rid their homes of 126 pounds of unwanted or expired prescription drugs on Oct. 29.

The and the Drug Enforcement Administration gave the public an opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by hosting the Drug Take-Back Day.

Iowa was one of six states in the Midwest to participate in the initiative, according to a Johnston Police Department news release.

Fifty-six Iowa agencies, including Johnston, participated in the program, collecting more than 4,000 pounds of medications.

The Johnston Police Department plans to continue sponsoring the take-back prescription drug opportunties.
