Johnston's Scanlan Brothers Place 3rd, 4th at State Wrestling Tourney

Joe Scanlan placed third in the weekend's state wrestling tourney at 220 pounds, while brother Jake finished in fourth at 285 pounds.

Joe Scanlan, a Johnston High School senior, placed third last weekend at 220 pounds in the state wrestling tournament.

Joe went 4-1 in matches at state; his only loss was to eventual champion Willie Micklus of Southeast Polk. This was Joe’s third consecutive year placing in the state meet.

He also broke Johnston’s record for all-time wins in a career, formerly held by Nick Mitchell. Joe also set the season pin record recording 28 falls this season. The old record was 27.  

Jake Scanlan, a sophomore who wrestled at 285 pounds, placed fourth at state. Jake went 3-2 in matches at state. His losses were to the eventual champion and third-place finishers.

This is the second consecutive year that Jake has placed in the state tournament.   

Johnston finished 16th place as a team in a field of 64 class 3A squads.
