Johnston School Board Continues Discussion on Videotaping Meetings

Tonight's regular meeting includes continued discussion of a special bond referendum to build a new high school.

Discussion over videotaping meetings continues tonight at the Johnston school board meeting.

Back in April, and post the tapes on a website for district residents to watch.

Since the measure passed, the board has received several updates on both policy and equipment costs.

The approved measure stipulated the district would not spend more than $10,000 on equipment.

Since then, updates of equipment and quality have ranged from dome cameras in the back of the room to a full-service company that would essentially handle all taping and storage.

Other agenda items include:

  • Discussion of a agreement between the district and the Teaching Channel to allow Sarah Wessling to help plan, facilitate, and participate in filming a professional development series in the classroom. Wessling β€” a former National Teacher of the Year β€” would also assist in administrative professional development in regard to the instructional model.
  • to construct, build, furnish and equip a proposed new high school building and to improve other sites.
  • Discuss and approve the fiscal 13 non-union and administrative wage increase of 3.25 percent.

The Johnston school board meets at 6 p.m. at the Administrative Resource Center for their regular meeting.
