With a Freeze Warning Heading for Johnston, Here are Tips For Your Plants Already Above Ground
Get out the sheets and blankets: Early blooming plants, fruit trees are vulnerable, especially overnight Monday and Tuesday.

Patchy frost in the first part of the work week followed by rain as it draws to an end with temperatures more typical of early spring highlight the National Weather Service’s forecast for the week ahead in Johnston.
To be on the safe side insulate those early emerging and blooming plants against the harsh weather. Gardening gurus advise against using plastic because foliage could freeze against it. Instead, use sheets, blankets or inverted buckets over tender young foliage.
Here’s what the forecasters tell you to expect:
Monday: It’ll be sunny and breezy with a high near 62, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Monday night, the temperature is expected to dip to 33 under clear skies. Patchy frost is possible overnight

Tuesday: Patchy frost could develop before 9 a.m., otherwise, expect mostly clear skies with a high near 56. Chance of patchy frost again in the overnight hours, after 4 a,m. Otherwise, mostly clear with a low around 31.
Wednesday: Patchy frost before 7 a.m., otherwise sunny with a high near 55. Partly cloudy overnight with overnight lows around 39.
Thursday: Partly sunny with a high near 57 and a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Rain likely overnight with a low around 45.
Friday: 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a high near 63. Rain chances continue Friday night, mostly cloudy with a low around 51.
Saturday and Sunday: Rain chances each day, with highs near 70 and lows in the mid-50s.
