JHS vs UHS FOOD FIGHT
The Johnston and Urbandale high school football teams will battle Sept. 13th at Johnston High School. This year, to make the rivalry a little more interesting, the schools are also competing to see which school - and its fans - can donate the most non-perishable food to the DMARC Johnston and Urbandale Food Pantries. Fans are asked to bring non-perishable food items to the game. Officials will tally the total donations from the two schools and announce a winner during the game. No matter the winner, Johnston and Urbandale Food Pantries will benefit equally from the haul.
Members of the football teams will be at the Johnston Closet and Food Pantry (5870 Merle Hay Rd. Suite D, Johnston) at 6:45 p.m. on Sept 18th to unload the truck. The Johnston Closet and Food Pantry feeds more than 100 families each month. Urbandale food pantry fed nearly 3000 families during the last year.
Des Moines Area Religious Council is an interfaith organization providing support, education, and fellowship. DMARC partners with 14 food pantries around the city to provide food for people who request it.
