Kumon Honors Johnston, West Des Moines, Waukee and Urbandale Students

More than 200 people were in attendance when students from the Johnston and West Des Moines Kumon centers were honored.

Students from the Johnston and West Des Moines were recently honored.

The 11th Annual Kumon Award and Appreciation Program drew more than 200 students, teachers and family to Blank Park Zoo on Oct. 9.

Each student is individually acknowledged for his or her efforts and accomplishments over the past year in the Kumon Program.

Students received medals or trophies for math and reading work above grade level. A special star award was given to students attaining algebra level work by the fifth grade.

Guest speakers included two students and Allen Prowell, branch manager from the St. Louis Kumon office.

Students and family were invited to enjoy the afternoon at the zoo after presentations.

Kumon supplements the school curriculum by reinforcing basic math and reading skills for students.
