Lady Dragons Cross Country Team Takes Third at State Meet

The team earned the best finish in school history.

It's been quite the post-season for Johnston High School fall athletics teams and it's no different for the girls' cross country team.

The Lady Dragons placed third, earning their best finish in school history at the State Cross Country Meet on Saturday, according to the school district website.

Coming into the meet the team was ranked 10th by the State Coaches Association.

The team also set a school record by running an average time of 14:57 as a team, which works out to an average pace of 6:14 per mile for 2.5 miles over hill and dale.

Results:

  • Jordyn Kleve: 12th overall; 14:32 (2 seconds from the school record)
  • Bailey Eppard: 18th overall; 14:37 (4th fastest time in school history)
  • Kenzie Foldes: 40th overall; 15:08
  • Anna Toot: 46th overall; 15:12
  • Sara Ness: 50th overall; 15:15
  • Maddy Bradley: 59th overall; 15:23
  • Sandra Kromminga: 100th overall; 16:14

All-Star Meet
Seniors Bailey Eppard and Andrea Renner will represent Johnston at the Senior All-Star Meet at Des Moines Area Community College in Ankeny next weekend.

Eppard was chosen to the elite Academic All-State team by virtue of her competition in the state meet and having a GPA of over 3.8 and ACT score better than 28.
