Man Who Made Sexual Comments and Told Cadet, 'I'll Slit Your Throat,' Gets a Warning

A man who reportedly told a cadet, "I'll slit your throat," if she acted up and made sexually explicit comments to employees has received "a stern warning" in lieu of more serious disciplinary action.

The Associated Press reported Michael Quinn, 70, the assistant director of the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy, violated the state’s anti-discrimination and violence-free workplace policies.

His boss, academy director Arlen Ciechanowski, issued a "written notice of alternative discipline" that he said carried the same weight as a five-day suspension without affecting Quinn's pay or benefits.

The Iowa Law Enforcement Academy is based at Camp Dodge in Johnston. It serves as a training center for law enforcement officers from around the state.

The matter came to light after an attorney for former academy instructor Nancy Brady provided the Associated Press with the warning letter to Quinn. Brady has argued in a grievance that she was unfairly fired after sending an email to Ciechanowski berating him for his lack of action against Quinn. Ciechanowski said the email was threatening.
