New Business Brings Eclectic Items, Gardening to Johnston
Bisbee Wood and Wire offers woodworking and metalworking services, as well as a community garden.
While boasts a wide selection of eclectic items, owner Matt Wilson says his business is intended to be less of a store and more of a place for community involvement.
“It’s a refreshing change from what’s been typically along the mile-long corridor in Johnston,” Wilson said of the store located at 6125 Merle Hay Road. “It’s more of an artisan shop than it is a retail store.”
Customers can peruse a variety of items chosen based on “coolness.” A partial list of items on sale includes antique wooden duck decoys, an 8-millimeter camera and a Commodore 64.

In addition to items for sale, Bisbee Wood and Wire also provides custom woodworking and metalworking services.
“If you can’t find something you like, you can bring something in that you want fixed," Wilson said.

The Wilsons have also established a community garden behind the business, where eight families are currently working the soil. They have heard more families expressing interest in the space, and are planning to expand the garden next year.
More than 60 people visited the store during its grand opening Saturday, and Wilson said the business has been steady since then.
