First Lady Michelle Obama visited Des Moines Thursday to promote the second anniversary of her "Let's Move" campaign, which emphasizes exercise and healthy eating to kids.

First Lady Michelle Obama got on Thursday with a stop at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.

The event was the kick-off for her three-day tour to promote the second anniversary of her "Let's Move" campaign to fight childhood obesity.

Obama danced with thousands of Iowa sixth- to ninth-grade students, as well as Gov. Terry Branstad and Olympic Gold Medalist Shawn Johnson.

During the visit, the first lady applauded Iowa's steps to get healthy.

In recent months, Iowa started a push to become the healthiest state in the nation by 2016.

The Healthiest State Initiative boasts programs such as the Blue Zones Project, an initiative with Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield and Healthways.

The Blue Zones Project are geographically defined areas around the world where people reach age 100 at 10-times greater rates than in the United States.

The idea is to transform 10 Iowa cities into Blue Zone Communities.

According to the Trust in America's Health report "F as in Fat", Iowa has an 11.2 percent childhood obesity rate, ranking 46th on a 50-state scale.

The state ranked 20th in adult obesity with 28.1 percent.
