READERS' CHOICE: Who's the Winner When It Comes To a Cool Treat in Johnston?

After a hard fought, three-week contest, our latest has wrapped up.

led votes for most of the three weeks, but in the last few days made a strong push with votes.

When we closed voting at noon Sunday Maui Wowi had 143 votes to Van Dee's 141 votes. Van Dee's also garnered two comments from customers.

Taking into consideration votes and comments, Johnston Patch has deemed it a tie for the best place for a cool treat in Johnston.

While Van Dee's has been a Johnston staple on Merle Hay Road with cool, creamy treats, Maui Wowi, which opened in 2008, travels to events around the metro, including the upcoming Des Moines Arts Festival.

The tasty Hawaiian treats are also served at Johnston school events, with portions of proceeds often benefiting clubs and organizations.
