Johnston Mayor Paula Dierenfield signed a proclamation last week "recognizing the fine work Johnston police officers perform on a daily basis regardless of peril or hazard to themselves."
"Thanks to their dedicated efforts, Johnston residents, students, employees, and visitors enjoy a safe community to live, visit, work and play," said Police Chief Bill Vaughn.

"As you know providing public safety is one of the most important functions of government," Vaughn added. "I am very proud of the support our community shows us and I am equally proud of the tireless dedication of our officers."
Dierenfeld's proclamation notes "The members of the Johnston Police Department work devotedly and selflessly on behalf of the residents of the Johnston community."

The mayoral proclamation urges residents to "join in commemorating police officers, past and present, who, by their faithful and loyal devotion to their responsibilities, have rendered a dedicated service to their communities and, in doing so, have established for themselves an enviable and enduring reputation for preserving the rights and security of all citizens."
