Snow Fall Creates Slick Travel In Johnston Thursday Night
The snowfall that landed Thursday evening and Friday morning wasn't much in volume — an inch or so in the metro — but what it lacked in depth it made up for in icy roads.

There wasn't enough snow to plow the road, but the overnight snowfall still made for a slick situation in Johnston.
The snow began falling in Johnston early Thursday evening. At around 10 p.m., the received word from the of several slick spots around town, said Dave Cubit, public works director.
"They indicated there were slick spots at intersections and they had answered to several accidents," he said.

"They came in and applied road salt to the critical locations," he said. "Then at 4 a.m. we had all the drivers come in and everyone went to the nine snow routes to put down more snow salt prior to rush hours. We went back to areas that may refreeze. At this point, it's just a spotty little thing we have to deal with."
Cubit said the snowfall, which measured a little over an inch, wasn't enough to actually plow the roads. The road salts are used for more traction, they also break up the slush as cars drive.
"It was a good opportunity to refresh your winter driving skills and get prepared for bigger and better things yet to come."
