Students selected for University of Iowa’s Belin-Blank Summer Institute
Students from Johnston's two middle schools were selected to attend a two-week summer institute at the University of Iowa.

Students who were selected from Johnston Middle School as participants for this year’s University of Iowa’s Belin-Blank Summer Institute include: Asiya Mohammed- Advanced Science; Brooke Thacker- Global and Cultural Studies; Donald Gee- Performing Arts; Sara Siebrecht-Creative Writing; Luke Safris -Invention and Innovation. Alternate for the program was Afshan Chandani- Math.
Those from Summit Middle School who were selected include: Aditi Jithendra- Advanced Science; and Ceci Hodson- Visual Arts. Alternates for the program were Sean Reddick-Social Sciences, Elvin Niu- Invention and Innovation and Hannah DeBruin -Creative Writing.

The students underwent a rigorous nomination process from the school district and were submitted along with students across the state for the opportunity to be selected for a two-week summer residential institute held in Iowa City.
Each student will receive a partial program scholarship, as well as a scholarship toward future admission at the University of Iowa. The students work with specialists in the chosen area and have an opportunity to take advantage of many opportunities on campus.
