Why go: Celebrate the life of seven-year-old Derek Ellerbeck, who passed away in March. The do-over prom and tropical party will raise money for medical bills.

Why go: Enjoy a family afternoon with musical performances by Justin Roberts, The Nadas and The Verve Pipe. The event includes balloon creations, cookie decorating and much more.

When/Where: 10 a.m. Monday at the new Johnston Veterans Memorial, 6700 Merle Hay Road.
Why go: Celebrate Memorial Day with a dedication that includes a 21-gun salute, wreath laying, "Taps" and much more.

When/Where: 5 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday at the at Camp Dodge.
Why go: A complimentary breakfast will be served from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., and check out the museum.
