Summit Sixth-Graders Study Organs From Donated Cadavers

The entire sixth-grade class participated in an activity last week exploring organs from cadavers donated to the medical school at Des Moines University.
Dr. Donald Matz and several first-year medical students volunteered time to show students donated organs.

Students could observe, handle, and make comparisons between healthy specimens, and diseased organs. Matz and his students shared general information on human body systems, professions and tips to stay healthy.
Students also discussed respect for the human organs and the process of donating organs for science.
