When/Where: Your yard or the dark outdoor space on Saturday night into Sunday morning
Why go: The shower splashes through the sky every year in early August when Earth passes through the comet Swift-Tuttle's orbit and sweeps up some of this debris. We see shooting stars -- rapid streaks of light -- as the tiny rocks encounter the thin upper atmosphere of the Earth and the air is heated to incandescence.

Why go: Kick off the new school year with the annual Sundae in the Park. Enjoy free ice cream and music by Wade Krieg and Ron Kennebeck. The event is sponsored by the Johnston Community Education and Johnston Community Education Resource Council. Patch will be on hand with goodies, as well!
