Swimming Students Race at Johnston Community Education Summer Camp

The week of May 28 several student took part in an aquatics camp at Summit Middle School.

The cool temperatures and rain didn't stop a group of Johnston sixth- and seventh-grade students from enjoying a little pool time on Thursday.

The Aquatics Camp, part of the , hosted students at for about an hour and a half each day this week.

Student enjoyed a number of actvities including free swim and creative relay races.

Isaac Sorensen, a soon-to-be seventh-grader, enjoyed a relay with swim noodles.

"It was a lot of fun," he said. "You get to hang out with friends and play games. You're out of school so it's a lot of fun."

Alexa Headlee, soon to be in seventh grade, agreed the noodle relay was the best.

"You got to sit on them and freestyle swim," she said. "The cannonball competition was cool too. I'd definitely do it again."

On Thursday, the students did a T-shirt relay contest.

Split into two teams, using the pool lanes, one team member would put on a T-shirt and swim to the other end. Once they raced out of the pool they would have to pass the T-shirt onto their next teammate. By the end the T-shirts were heavy and hard to swim in.
